Leaving the intimate fjord village of Flåm, you enter the Lærdal Tunnel — at 24.5 km, it's the longest road tunnel in the world. Inside, colored light caves break up the darkness in blue, green, and gold.

Emerging onto the Hardangervidda plateau — Europe's largest mountain plateau — the landscape transforms into vast, open tundra. Wild reindeer roam here, and the sky feels impossibly close.

A mandatory stop: Vøringsfossen, where water plunges 182 meters into a narrow gorge. The new viewing platform lets you feel the spray on your face as you peer into the abyss.

Just off the main road stands Borgund Stave Church, a 900-year-old Viking-era wooden church with dragon heads on its gables. It's one of the best-preserved stave churches in Norway.
